The Underground Garden Room receives practical completion today, marking the end of a high quality fast track build. The design, an extension to the main house through its rear hall, including a large underground space. The challenge was to re-orientate the centre of gravity for family life. To make some sense of the South facing recreation area creating space for snooker, tables tennis and a home cinema – close by, but not in the main house. There is a huge cantilever corner - making the inside and outside co-joined in a very understated and simple way. This solution lets in a massive amount of natural daylight, as the windows are south and west facing, and helps minimise energy draw.
