The clients of Marksbury Avenue moved in, completing the story on their build, and marking the beginning of a new chapter for their family. The project for CLS Construction started in September 20120 when Crawford Partnership Ltd awarded CLS the Marksbury Avenue contract. The project was for the end-to-end construction of a contemporary three bedroom family home that maximised the potential of a very constrained site. The development also had to conform to code for sustainable homes level 3 and provide enough external space to be of real use to a young family. The build consisted of a basement and ground floor storey home with all the accommodation situated in the basement, and an open plan living, dining, kitchen on the ground floor which opens up to the garden. The Underground Garden Room receives practical completion today, marking the end of a high quality fast track build...The Underground Garden Room receives practical completion today, marking the end of a high quality fast track build. The design, an extension to the main house through its rear hall, including a large underground space. The challenge was to re-orientate the centre of gravity for family life. To make some sense of the South facing recreation area creating space for snooker, tables tennis and a home cinema – close by, but not in the main house. There is a huge cantilever corner - making the inside and outside co-joined in a very understated and simple way. This solution lets in a massive amount of natural daylight, as the windows are south and west facing, and helps minimise energy draw. The flexibility offered by the main space is also an interesting feature. Continues...
